In a successful crackdown on drug trafficking, the Special Task Force (STF) of Assam Police, in collaboration with Kamrup district police, conducted two separate operations resulting in the recovery and seizure of a significant quantity of heroin worth approximately Rs 11 crore.
Partha Sarathi Mahanta, the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of STF, informed ANI that the Kamrup district police, acting on undisclosed information, launched an operation late on Saturday night (July 1). During the operation, law enforcement officials apprehended three drug peddlers and seized 700 grams of heroin from a vehicle. The market value of the confiscated narcotics is estimated to be around Rs 11 crore.
The successful operations highlight the state police's determination to combat the menace of drug trafficking. Assam Police's STF, in collaboration with local law enforcement agencies, has been proactively pursuing leads and acting on intelligence to curb the illegal drug trade in the region.
Further investigations are currently underway to uncover additional details about the drug network, identify the source of the contraband, and apprehend other individuals involved in the illicit trade.
